Meet Yvonne Bondy, Associate

Windsor, Ontario

Yvonne is the mother of seven children, grandmother of 14 and great grandmother of 22. She became an associate on Dec. 7, 2013 at the age of 86. She met and prayed daily with two of our devoted Associates, Lise Kaput and Janet Meloche, and then began meeting every two weeks with Sister Antoinette Janisse, her mentor, who did not use any formal program but just met her where she was. They talked about the SNJM community spirituality and mission. They also spoke of each other’s own spirituality and the importance of understanding it.

According to her daughter, Yvonne spends about two hours a day in prayer, which is her main ministry. She also began doing tai chi at the age of 85! Over the years she has volunteered at funeral luncheons, helped students with reading challenges and provided weekly transportation for her sister-in-law to buy groceries. Yvonne has a great sense of humour and an extraordinary love for her family. She loves to read in English and French and belongs to a book club. For a few years, Yvonne was part of a group of Associates discussing the works of theologian Henry Nouwen.

She is such a faithful Associate, and into her 90s has never missed an opportunity to gather with the Sisters and other Associates for prayer, retreats, discussions and social times. We are truly blessed that Yvonne Bondy accepted God’s call to become an Associate!
