Irene Knopes, SNJM

A young widow with her two children grown, Irene found herself attracted to the Holy Names charism, becoming an SNJM Associate. She soon realized her life and the SNJM charism ran parallel. Already studying pastoral ministry at Gonzaga University and inspired by SNJM involvement in parish work, she joined the Sisters as a vowed member. As an SNJM, Irene utilized her family and pastoral skills at St. Joseph’s parish, a diverse community located in Spokane’s poorest neighborhood. Irene retired after serving as parish administrator and assistant for a total of 19 years. She continues to volunteer in the parish.
