Sister Kathleen Walsh, SNJM departed this life on June 19, 2025 in Lake Oswego, Oregon.
Sister Kathleen celebrated 100 years of life and 80 years of her religious profession.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Chapel of the Holy Names in Lake Oswego, Oregon.
Sister Kathleen Walsh, SNJM, 100, died on June 19 in Lake Oswego. Mass of Resurrection is Thursday, July 24, 11 a.m., Chapel of the Holy Names, Marylhurst.
Daughter of Michael and Mary (Cooper) Walsh, Kathleen grew up in Milwaukie, Oregon. She joined the Holy Names Sisters in 1942. receiving the religious name Sister Ignatius of Mary. In her early ministry, Kathleen was an elementary teacher, secretary for SNJM administration, and registrar at St. Mary’s Academy, Portland. In her early 50s, she pursued CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) training, becoming a chaplain at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Portland, the most rewarding period in her life she said. On retiring in 1996, Kathleen volunteered numerous hours to justice concerns, living out her commitment of seeking systemic change in collaboration with others.
A Holy Names Sister for 80 years, Sister Kathleen is survived by her nieces and nephews and the members of her religious community.
