Sister Marianne Viani, SNJM departed this life on December 19, 2024 in Saratoga, California.

Sister Marianne celebrated 86 years of life and 66 years of her religious profession.

A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Chapel in Campbell, California.

Burial will take place at a later date at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward, California.

In the morning of December 19, 2024, Sister Marianne Viani (Sister Mary Caritas) entered into eternal life. She was 86 years old and celebrated 66 years of religious profession as a Sister of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary.

“Education has been my passion.” How true these words of Sister Marianne were. For over 50 years her ministries were dedicated to formal education. She was a teacher, an educator to the educators, SNJM Elementary Coordinator, Los Angeles Archdiocese Elementary Education Coordinator and Associate Superintendent for the Archdiocese of San Francisco.

Her elementary school teaching and principalships were at Saint Joseph (San Francisco), Saint Stephen (Monterey Park), Saint Anselm (San Anselmo), Saint Anthony (San Gabriel), and Saint Gregory (Los Angeles).

Her commitment to education also included serving on many WCEA/WASC accreditation teams, educational commissions and the Board of Trustees of Holy Names University and the Board of Directors at Holy Names High School (Oakland).

Sister Marianne fostered and cherished relationships with her family, friends and colleagues. She loved to read, shop and travel.

She was predeceased by her parents, George and Madeline Viani, and brothers George, Robert and Jack Viani. She is survived by her sisters, Connie Berberian (Hank), Sister Maureen Viani, SNJM and sister-in-law, Dorothy Viani. Also survived by nieces, nephews and relatives. She is remembered fondly by her beloved Sisters and Affiliates of the Holy Names.

Sister Marianne’s Mass of Resurrection will be on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Chapel in Campbell, California. Her burial will be at a later date.
