Please join us in prayers of thanksgiving for the life of Sister Margaret O’Brien. Margaret was 92 years old and had been a vowed member of our Community for 73 years.

Margaret was a Florida native. She was a boarder and graduate of our Academy in Tampa. After entering the congregation in Albany, Margaret made her novitiate in Montreal. She was then missioned to Florida and taught in Key West, Tampa, Bradenton, Clearwater and St. Petersburg. She was a talented and dedicated Math teacher. Since she was fun-loving, creative and full of spirit her students enjoyed her a great deal. After leaving the classroom she transitioned to parish ministry serving as the Director of Religious Education in several parishes in Florida including Silver Springs, Port Orange, DeLand, Naples, Holiday and New Port Richey. When she retired from full-time ministry she served as a substitute teacher at our Academy in Tampa. Over the years Margaret occasionally served the New York Province as the Southern Regional Director.

She lived her final years at Concordia Village where she was well loved by the residents and caregivers because of her free spirit and “tell it like it is” manner. She loved to play bingo, participate in the rhythm band and she was always faithful to chapel services. Margaret was well known for her love of cats, her musical talents, she was very good on the guitar and for her deep concern for people who were in need.

We remember Margaret for her big heart, her sense of humor, her honesty, her creativity, her desire to be of service and for her love of people. She was always up for new adventures, fun loving, a Floridian to the core, a faithful woman of God. She was deeply devoted to her friends, family and to our Holy Names community. May her memory be blessed.
