Sister Mary Patricia Plumb, SNJM departed this life on January 8, 2021 in Tampa, Florida.

Sister Mary Patricia celebrated 83 years of life and 64 years of religious profession.

A Mass of Resurrection was held in her memory.

Sister Mary Patricia Plumb, 83, passed away Friday, Jan. 8, at Tampa Advent Hospital, where she was being treated for COVID pneumonia.

Before retiring in 2020, she was campus minister at the Academy of Holy Names (AHN) in Tampa, which she attended from grades. 4-12. She previously served as teacher or principal of Catholic schools in Florida and New York.

In 1955, she entered the Sisters of the Holy Names (SNJM), dedicating her life to Christ. She graduated from Barry University and earned a master’s degree from the University of South Florida.

A native of Clearwater, Fla., she was a great-granddaughter of Jennie Reynolds Plumb, the first public school teacher in Pinellas County, and niece of Kathleen Plumb, longtime teacher and administrator in Pinellas County schools. Plumb Elementary School in Clearwater is named after them.

She also was a descendent of Alexis Coquillard, founder of South Bend, Ind., who was instrumental in the founding of the University of Notre Dame. She inherited her well-known love of the Fighting Irish from her mother.
For many years she was coach of the AHN speech and debate team. In 2006, she was inducted into the National Speech and Debate Association Hall of Fame. Tributes from former team members testify to her lasting influence on their lives.

She was the daughter of Milton Plumb and Anne Miller Plumb, R.N. She was preceded in death by her brother Michael, and is survived by her brother Terry Plumb (Betty) of Rock Hill, S.C., and numerous nieces and nephews, including her favorite nieces, Amanda Plumb of Atlanta and Emily Plumb (Kevin Hernandez) and their children, Ainsley and Brooks Hernandez of Raleigh
