The daughter of George and Lulabelle Fowler Richard, Mary grew up in Reedsport and Portland, Oregon. After graduating from St. Mary’s Academy, she entered the Sisters’ novitiate and received the name Sister Marian Arthur.

Sister Mary loved young children. She spent her years in the classroom as a primary teacher in several Holy Names schools in Oregon, which included 10 years in Medford where she was greatly loved by her students and their parents.

Do all that you do with love.” On leaving the classroom, she brought her bright smile and generosity to community service. Over time Sister Mary was receptionist at the Convent of the Holy Names and helped with tasks as needed in the Sisters’ Care Center. She also assisted in the Registrar’s Office at Marylhurst College and tutored and worked in the school library at The Madeleine School, Portland.
