Refugee Solidarity Walk at Holy Names High School
Holy Names High School, Oakland recently organized a Refugee Solidarity Walk with St. Theresa School. HNHS students simulated the plight of refugees by turning the St. Theresa students away at the "border" (HNHS campus) and then funneling them into a queue to be processed by border agents in small groups. At the processing table, HNHS students spoke only in French and Spanish to simulate the plight of a refugee entering a land with little or no knowledge of the spoken language. Once processed, Catholic Relief Services took each group and shared food and water with them. This was a tremendous learning experience for both sets of students.
