Strawberry Day in California
On May 10, 1868, six Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary arrived in San Francisco from Eastern Canada, where they were warmly welcomed by the Sisters of Mercy with strawberries and cream. As strawberries were not in season in Eastern Canada at that time of year, this was quite a treat for them. Every year in the Bay Area, we commemorate the arrival of the founders of our school with Strawberry Day.
