Patricia Parachini, SNJM

PatParachiniPat was born in Newark, NJ and moved to Silver Spring, MD at the age of 9. Her older brother, Larry and his wife, Elaine have three married daughters, Patty, Laura and Ellen and 7 grandchildren. All of them live in Maryland. Pat met the SNJMs at St. Michael's School in 4th grade and moved on to AHN in Silver Spring, graduating in 1957. Pat went to Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY and graduated in May 1961. She later earned an M.A. at LaSalle College in Phil. PA and a Doctor of Ministry at CUA in Washington, DC. Pat entered the SNJMs n Rome, NY on July 2, 1961.

In September the novitiate was moved to Albany, NY, in the newly constructed Provincial House. Pat went to teach in New Bedford, MA for 6 months as a novice and then returned to Albany to teach 2 years at St. Thomas in Delmar, NY while completing the juniorate. Pat then taught in Tampa and Silver Spring, followed by two years in Japan working with Maryknoll to set up a new Catechetical Center in the Diocese of Kyoto; she lived with the Maryknoll Sisters in Kyoto. Pat's ministries continued to diversify when she returned to the U.S. and included Campus Ministry; Parish Ministry; Seminary and Lay Ministry Education and Formation, including the teaching of Preaching, Pastoral Theology and Spirituality; Hospital Ministry; Spiritual Direction, Retreats, Supervision; and writing.

Pat was involved in several interprovince and province committees for the SNJMs during the 1980s and 1990s: General Formation Committee, the Justice Colloquium Committee; the General Chapter Planning Committee for 1996 Chapter, and the Confluence Committee. Pat was a delegate to the 1986 General Chapter and in the former NY Province served as Novice Director and Temporary Vowed Director for several years. Pat is the author of two books on Lay Preaching and numerous published articles in the areas of liturgy, spirituality and pastoral care. Pat's present ministries include teaching for WTU and Loyola U. of MD, spiritual direction, supervision and writing. Pat is the Mission Centre Coordinator for the mid-Atlantic Mission Centre.
