Marguerite Kirk, SNJM
Sr. Marguerite was born and raised in Denver, CO; the youngest of four children, she grew up in a strong Catholic family, attending Catholic elementary and high schools. In 1957 she moved to San Francisco where she met the Holy Names Sisters at St. Cecilia Parish, and three years later, she entered the SNJM congregation. Early evidence of Marguerite’s tenacity and focus is seen in the story of her earning her BS in Business Administration from UC Berkeley – after ten years of part-time study and five different colleges!
Sr. Marguerite has spent many of her years as a Holy Names Sister in financial administration, where her keen mind, sense of proportion, sense of humor and ability to relate to people have been gifts to our institutions and to individuals. She spent 22 years in various ministries at Holy Names College/University – ministries such as trustee, treasurer, planned giving director, financial aid director, instructor, and another five years as treasurer at Holy Names High School.
Sr. Marguerite’s skills in administration and her gifts in working with people have resulted in calls (twice) to be a member of the Province Administration/Leadership Team as well as a time she spent as Candidate Director. Sr. Marguerite responded with generosity and skill to these calls, as well as a current one to serve as Coordinator for the Los Gatos Mission Center.
Sr. Marguerite spent much of her religious life far from her family in Colorado; it has been a particular joy for her to get to know and share the joys and challenges of her 17 wonderful nieces and nephews; each one of them is a very special part of her life.
